First Guest of Translation, Language and Culture Talks: Singer and Translator Sibel ALAŞ

Translation academics and students met online with Sibel Alaş, the singer who left her mark on the 90s and translated the fantasy novel series ‘Game of Thrones’ into Turkish.

The first guest of the “Translation, Language and Culture Talks” (SAÇEV) organized by Samsun University Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, Department of English Translation and Interpreting was Sibel ALAŞ, a well-known singer and an extremely talented translator.

In the first of the Translation, Language and Culture Talks, academics, students and many researchers from the field of translation came together with Sibel ALAŞ. Sibel ALAŞ talked about her singing and translation career in the online conference moderated by Tuğçe Elif TAŞDAN DOĞAN, head of the Translation and Interpreting Department. At the ZOOM meeting with more than 70 participants, Sibel ALAŞ talked about the difficulties she encountered in the translation industry.

The interview started with the introductory speech by Assist. Prof. Dr. Tuğçe Elif TAŞDAN DOĞAN. Taşdan Doğan talked about Alaş’s achievements as a singer and translator and her contributions to both the art community and Turkish Literature. Taşdan Doğan said, “We host competent translators and language experts in these talks” and drew attention to the future of the talks.
